Vanessa a stand-out in our sector

Karratha-based system engineer Vanessa Bullock wins the Outstanding Young Women in Resources category at the 11th annual Women in Resources Awards.

The Awards, held by the Chamber of Minerals and Energy Western Australia and supported by Woodside, recognise the power of gender diversity in the Western Australian resources sector and those who champion the achievements of women.

The judging panel noted her current role leading a team, ability to perform rapid responses to critical issues, presentation as a subject-matter expert at the Australasian Congress for Applied Mechanics (ACAM8) and delivery of two of Woodside’s most complex subsea pigging projects in 2017 and 2018. Vanessa’s work has also been singled out for excellence by Woodside’s asset and turnaround excellence managers.

Vanessa uses her experience to mentor several young female engineers and relishes in empowering others to take full responsibility for their role. Her words of advice are, "don't short-change yourself, don't give anything less than 100%. Always focus to work in areas to amplify your strengths."

Vanessa is the youngest member of the steering committee of Woodside’s gender equality advocacy group, Gender Equality Matters. She is also an active member of the Woodside Reconciliation Community.

Outside work, she is completing her MBA remotely through the Australian Graduate School of Management at the University of New South Wales. As part of her passion for reconciliation she has supported the Gumatj Corporation through a six-week volunteering secondment with Jawun in north-east Arnhem Land, and at the 2018 Garma Festival. She is the co-founder and operator of Tompost, an urban composting business, which converts organic waste into usable gardening products.

We congratulate Vanessa on her many achievements, as well as all 2020 Women in Resources Awards finalists and nominees.
