Pluto LNG has offset more than 850,000 tonnes of CO₂ since 2008. Through an innovative collaboration with CO2 Australia, over 26 million drought-resistant, native Australian Blue Mallee trees have been planted across more than 17,000 hectares.
Pluto LNG
We took Pluto from discovery in 2005 to first production just seven years later, a demonstration of our world-class LNG capabilities and expertise.

Pluto LNG processes gas from the offshore Pluto and Xena gas fields in Western Australia. Gas is piped through a 180 km trunkline to a single onshore LNG-processing train. Pluto LNG is underpinned by long-term sales agreements with Kansai Electric and MidOcean Energy, which each hold a 5% interest in the project.
Gas from the Scarborough Energy Project will be processed through Pluto LNG. Woodside is currently executing a brownfield expansion of Pluto LNG through the construction of a second gas processing train (Pluto Train 2) and modifications to the existing LNG processing train, Pluto Train 1. Construction of Pluto Train 2 commenced in June 2022 and will have a production capacity of about 5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa). As part of this, additional domestic gas infrastructure will be installed to increase capacity to up to 225 Terajoules per day. Following completion of the Pluto Train 1 modifications and once the capacity becomes available, up to 3 Mtpa of gas from the Scarborough field will be processed at the Pluto Train 1 Facilities.
The Pluto–KGP Interconnector, is a pipeline connecting Pluto LNG and Karratha Gas Plant. The infrastructure allows the transfer of gas between the plants to optimise production across both facilities, and enabling increased domestic gas and LNG production, and supporting future development of additional gas reserves.
The Pluto LNG facility also provides LNG locally in Western Australia through trucked LNG. A trucked LNG export facility commenced operations in 2021, supplying more than 2,000 trailers of LNG offering a lower-carbon alternative to diesel1.
1. Woodside uses this term to describe the characteristic of having lower levels of associated potential greenhouse gas emissions when compared to historical and/or current conventions or analogues, for example relating to an otherwise similar product.
