Woodside is proposing the brownfield expansion of Pluto LNG through the construction of a second gas processing train as part of the Scarborough to Pluto development. Pluto Train 2 will have a capacity of about 5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) (100% Project).
Woodside awarded (100% funded) a contract to Bechtel WA Pty Ltd. in December 2018 to undertake front-end engineering and design for Pluto Train 2. The contract includes an option for Woodside to progress to a lump sum engineering, procurement, and construction contract for Execute phase activities, subject to a positive final investment decision being taken on the project.
On 30 October 2019 the Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA (CCIWA) hosted prospective suppliers in Perth, with presentations from Robert MacKinnon, Woodside’s Pluto Train 2 Project Manager - and Mellissa Case, Bechtel WA’s Manager Social Performance.

Scarborough to Pluto is expected to deliver significant long-term benefits across Australia over the life of the project - the majority of which will be realised in Western Australia.

In early November, the project teams also held supplier and community information sessions in Karratha and Roebourne. Around 30 businesses attended a Karratha & Districts Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KDCCI) Speed Networking event to learn more about contracting opportunities and in particular, working with Bechtel WA.
On 11 November Woodside held community information sessions at the Karratha Shopping Centre and Woodside’s Roebourne office.

“We recognise one of the major challenges for suppliers is being able to meet face-to-face with large companies like Bechtel and Woodside”, says Mellissa.
“Our advice for contractors looking for work is to maintain a current, accurate profile on the various business databases, including the ICN Gateway, used to advertise packages for Pluto Train 2”.

Woodside is targeting the final investment decision for Pluto Train 2 in the first half of 2020 and ready for start-up in 2024.
